THE EVENT

The Perth Integrated Health Cyclo Sportif – Waroona participation event will take place on Sunday morning 19th September 2010. Teams of 4–9 riders will set off, aiming to complete the 42kms and 79kms course to the best of their ability. The Event assembly area / Venue is located at the Waroona Recreation & Aquatic Centre on Hill St, Waroona.

Please note the later Start Time of 9:30am.

This is yet another new event on our calendar, and we have left the best to last. This brand new course is an absolute hidden gem. The scenery is fantastic, the roads are in good condition, there’s little or no traffic and the Venue is a new and very large Recreation & Aquatic Centre.

Be warned though – this course is far from flat and can best be described as hilly and challenging – so don’t let the shorter distances make you think it will be easy. In fact, the only flat section is the first (and last) 1km. After that, the climbing starts and continues, on and off, all the way to the turnaround points. But just think of the return downhills – what a great way to finish. This really is a fantastic course and one that no Cyclo rider should miss.

Please note that unfortunately we are unable to provide a “C” category for this event as there is no suitable and safe turnaround point for the distance required.

As always, our Cyclo event will be followed by lunch and presentations. Lunch will be supplied by Spit Roast Catering with their generous and varied menu options available once again.

The Rec Centre is to the east of South West Highway and is best accessed from Millar St directly off the highway. The Rec Centre provides us with a safe haven in case of bad weather and is an excellent venue with all the necessary facilities. There’s plenty of car-parking available and access is easy.

THE COURSE

As already mentioned, the course is hilly. Both “A” and “B” group follow the same course until the “B” turnaround point at a T-Junction approximately 21km from the start. At the turnaround, “B” group will return via the reverse route back down the hill to the Rec Centre. The “A” group riders continue on by turning left and climbing further until a short loop around the township of Dwellingup and then returning via the same route.

See below for a more detailed description and maps of the course:

Detailed Route Description: Start from Waroona Recreation & Aquatic Centre on Hill St until a right-hand turn into Nanga Brook Rd. Head east on Nanga Brook Rd until the T-junction with Nanga Rd – this is the “B” turnaround point. The “A” group riders turn left into Nanga Rd and follow this on up to the T-junction with Pinjarra-Williams Rd where it’s a left turn to head to the Dwellingup township. There a quick loop around the town via McLarty St, Del Park Rd, Marinup St and Moore St before a left turn back into Pinjarra-Williams Rd and a return to the Rec Centre via the reverse route.
