The results are in!
164 people who work or live in Subiaco entered the Active Commuter Challenge
- 49% changed the way they travel, either by starting to take active transport, or by increasing their number of active transport trips per week.
- Of those that didn't change, most were already using active transport to get to work.
- There was a 43% reduction in car trips, a 25% increase in bike trips, a 12% increase in walk trips and a 3% decrease in public transport trips to work.
- The percentage of participants that gained the required 30 minutes of exercise per day from their main mode of travel increased from 56% before the Challenge, to 89% after the Challenge.
- The most common health benefits experienced during the Challenge were: improved fitness, more energy, weight loss, and improved mood.
Many participants made comments about the Challenge:
"I discovered that it's just as fast to get to work on bike as it is by public transport or by car".
"The Challenge helped me form a healthy habit."
"I found it interesting to see how much money I was saving and energy I was burning by cycling to work every day".
