Light Up!

The BWA Light Up! campaign aims to get a light on every bike that is out and about after dark. This campaign aims to prevent collisions, improve visual communication, guide riders to the best performing lights, monitor penalties and communicate road rules.

During winter most of the commuter trips will require working bike lights with many people riding between dusk and dawn.

We asked and 61% of you said that other riders not wearing lights was one of the most annoying habits. It is also one of the most frequently cited annoyances to car drivers and pedestrians. And it is against the law.

Fatalities in night time or semi darkness often involve riders without lights or with inadequate lighting.

Phase One: We are currently in the process of gathering data on WA riders and their habits involving lights and visibility gear

The purpose of this survey is to gather more information about the reasons bike riders choose to use or not use bicycle lights. Your response will help us develop strategies to increase bicycle light compliance and make your riding communicative and considerate.

Bike lights test 2010
Every year BWA, Ride On and the Bicycle Network tests bike lights to find out the best on the market and the best value

The purpose of this survey is to gather more information about the reasons bike riders choose to use or not use bicycle lights. Your response will help us develop strategies to increase bicycle light compliance and make your riding communicative and considerate.

Some people don’t put lights on their bikes. Or lights that anyone can see.

Later this year we will be launching a follow-up survey to the questions we ask you now. To contact you for this second survey we ask that you to supply us with your current e-mail address. Your e-mail address will only be used for inviting you to the follow-up survey.
