3. BWA Contribute to the State Governments Strategic Energy Initiative (July 2010)
About this page
BWA President, Paul Fiddes, was invited to attend a conference in Perth on the 30th June 2010 to contribute to the State Governments Strategic Energy Initiative.
The conference was a part of Energy 2030, which is to design and develop a long term, strategic plan to meet Western Australia's energy needs over the next 20 years. Transport was a particular focus of this forum and Paul attended as the only representative for cycling.
In attendance were heads of the key government departments as well as sustainable interest groups and industry. Paul had the opportunity to present to the group and outlined the benefits of cycling to the community and the need for government to further provide safer cycling infrastructure, driver and cyclist education and to examine existing legislation to remove any barriers that may discourage more people from cycling more often.
