2. Report released - Developing a Community of Cycling in WA (July 2010)
About this page
Commonly known as "The Brown Report", the Developing a Community of Cycling in WA has now been released for general comment. BWA played a significant role in bringing about this report as we recognised that there was a need for greater coordination across all aspects of riding (sport, transport and recreation).
On Wednesday 30th June BWA President Paul Fiddes and Treasurer Dan Fogarty, attended the official release and response by the Department of Sport and Recreation of what has become known as the Brown Report, Developing a Community of Cycling in Western Australia.
Colin Brown was appointed to provide a report examining the cycling organisations operating within Western Australia and to look at ways whereby they could be better coordinated in their voice to government and how the government could better support the development of the activity in our state.
The BWA committee regularly met with the author Colin Brown during the consultation stage and attended one of his workshops.
The report recommendations identfies BWA as being one of the key organisations in the future of the development of cycling in this state. It recommends the setting up of an overarching organisation that liaises with Government and the various cycling groups. The organisation would be governed by a board and BWA would have at least one representative on that board. One of its key functions would be to represent cycling interests in a coordinated way to government and to determine government grant monies to cycling organisations.
The Minister for Sport and Recreation has indicated his full support of the recommendations.
