The aim of the Bicycle Network is to get More People Cycling More Often. We believe everyone’s life will be better if they ride a bike. One of the main reasons people give for not riding is that they don’t have a bike – we hope to solve that with this fantastic opportunity. Let's get More People Cycling More Often in Western Australia. What are you waiting for?
If you have friends living in other states, we provide free interstate bike transport!
How do I get a free bike?
To be eligible for the free bike you must sign up as a BWA member through the event registration page, not through the BWA Shop.
*The free bike is available to the first 2,000 Western Australian residents who sign up to the ride and purchase a Bicycling Western Australia membership at time of entry. There is only a limit of 2,000 bikes - so don't miss out! If you are already a member of BWA you can help get More People Cycling More often by telling friends, family and workmates about the offer.
To secure your free bike all you need to do is register via The West Australian Great WA Bike Ride online registration. Select and pay for BWA membership as well as a $200 deposit for the event. Be quick before all 2000 bikes are snatched up.

How it works
We will order your bike, assemble your bike and have it ready for collection in Perth during a weekend in late October 2010 (date and location to be confirmed).

- the wheels, handlebars and seat will be on and the tyres inflated
- any other action will have been taken in order to make the bicycle fit for use by the customer.
The bike will be repackaged 99% assembled (pedals removed, front wheel removed, handlebars turned and removed from frame) and delivered in a box to your door.
- Delivered to Metro Perth (within 50km of the GPO): $60
- All other areas in Western Australia: $85
Questions
I have entered – Do I get the bike?
Yes, if you live in WA and purchase a Bicycling WA membership during event registration. However, you must sign up quick as there are only 2,000 bikes up for grabs. *Child under 5 entries are not eligible for the bike or Great West Getaway participants.
I am already a BWA Member - does that mean I don't get the bike?
This offer is aimed at new riders and potential riders who are going to be introduced to the fact that life is better on a bike through this unique cycling holiday. We understand that currently the Bicycling Western Australia database is full of experienced, knowledgeable riders who are excited about the potential for growth in WA.
A free “first bike” will we know not be of interest to you but the offer has the potential to dramatically swell the Bicycling Western Australia membership giving the organisation a larger voice to work for cycling development within the state and nationally.
I am a Bicycle Victoria Member who lives in WA. Can I sign up as a BWA Member to get the bike?
Sure, purchasing a BWA membership contributes to Bicycle Network's mission to get more people cycling more often. If you would like a free bike for yourself or to give to a friend or family member who does not have one, purchasing a BWA membership will allow you to receive the bike.
I live outside of Western Australia. Do I get a bike?
The free bike offer is intended to drive new riders in Western Australia. This is an inititative from Bicycling WA to increase grass roots riding numbers in this beautiful state and we hope the rest of Australia will support this cause. However, we are pleased to offer interstate participants free bike transport to and from the event!
What if I don’t want a new bike?
If you don’t want the bike, why not select a size and use it to get someone else riding – check that you get the right size. You could also donate it to a charity that distributes bikes or give it to a friend or family member who doesn't own a bike and get them to join you on the event or on your training rides!
If you really don’t want the bike, just click on the option for "no bike" on entry. The bike is free, so the price will not change regardless of whether you get the bike or not.
Surely it is just a terrible bike?
You can have a look through the details of the bike on the website and make a decision for yourself. We are sure that Cadel Evans and the Australian pursuit team pedal a more fancy machine but we know this bike will work wonderfully well on the ride and be a useful and comfortable bike for many years after. This is the 4th version of this bike and each time we keep improving it. More than 5000 people have ridden the free bike on our multi day events.
Why are we doing this?
We are doing this to bring new riders to the event while also growing the membership of BWA - more members give us more voice in WA. As a BWA member, your role is to be an ambassador for cycling and find these new people, we all know someone that we want to get riding. Use the event and the bike to excite them, offer to get them started by doing some training rides with them. We would love to see you on the ride supporting them as well.
For cycling to grow and improve in WA we need to grow our voice and support. This event and offer will not only add 2000 new voices to the mission, it will contribute to the long-term future of cycling in WA..
