City of Perth Cycle Plan 2029

The City of Perth Cycle Plan 2029 is aimed at creating a strategic cycle network and infrastructure for cycling, alongside initiatives to educate road users and integrate cycling for a more cycle-friendly city.

The City of Perth hopes to promote the culture of everyday cycling to reinforce it as a popular and attractive mode of transportation – for those already cycling, and for those considering it.

Our thoughts on the City Cycle Plan 2029

10 August 2012 – Bicycling Western Australia is pleased to see a number of improvements including the proposal to install bike lanes along Barrack Street and the ability for low speed riding through the Hay and Murray Street malls. The impact of the Elizabeth Quay remains a concern and the City needs to look at ways to improve the east-west links across the city.

The feedback period has now closed and you can read our full submission here.

Implementation Program 2012 – 2017

A five year implementation program has been developed by the City of Perth to identify specific projects and estimated costs associated with delivering a strategic cycle network and encouraging an increase in cycling participation within the City of Perth.

Bicycling Western Australia is pleased to see the first four items on the implementation plan have recently received funding through the Perth Bicycle network grants from the department of transport.

2011 Base Line Study

The City of Perth conducted a base line study in 2011 of all current cycling networks, cycling infrastructure and the resources available to cyclists within the city.

Audits conducted as part of this base line study identified the existing cycle network and highlighted important links that should be considered in the development of a new strategic cycle network.
