BMX is a sport that riders of all ages, skill levels, and gender race around a specially designed dirt track. A BMX track varies in length from 300 to 400 meters and includes a number of jumps and corners. Riders need to develop acceleration, speed, balance and an ability to respond quickly, in order to get around the track in the shortest possible time.
Bicycle Motocross Australia (BMXA) is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission as the National Sporting Organisation for BMX racing within Australia. BMXA is also an affiliate of UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), the international cycling federation.
BMXA is the second largest BMX nation behind the United States of America. There are BMX clubs located in every state, in both rural and metropolitan regions.
BMXA also has a number of programs ranging from junior development programs, through to Talent Identification programs. There is an opportunity to join in BMX riding, whatever the level of rider you may be.
