ABOUT US

As an indicator of the built environment and sustainability, Planners recognise that cycling is a significant element of Western Australia’s recreation and transport. Emerging trends have also suggested that cycling will also have a much greater impact on public health than we have really appreciated in the past. With these elements in mind there is no stronger position to be in to encourage and promote cycling, and the need for better cycling infrastructure, than those who are directly involved in shaping the future of our urban environment.

Local Government Planners Association (LGPA) is a group of professionals with a passion for planning in Western Australia. Recognising Cycling in its entirety, LGPA have responded by establishing a practical measure being a local bicycle user group called ‘LGPA Cleats and Cranks’.

Established in late 2008, LGPA Cleats and Cranks is intended for all industry members within planning and associated professional fields who are interested in participating in and promoting cycling in its various forms.

The idea of ‘Planners turning the Wheels’, through LGPA Cleats and Cranks, not only provides a positive recreation opportunity for its participants, but it also sets up a strong network amongst professionals to start tackling issues and finding solutions pertaining to cycling and planning within Western Australia.
