The Ride2Work program aims to get people started and keep them riding to work.
Why ride to work?
- It’s fun
- It’s cheap
- It’s convenient
- You can lose / maintain weight
- Your cardiovascular capacity will increase
- It will reduce stress
The Ride2Work Program is designed to help people move from ‘contemplation’ to ‘action’ and establish the habit of riding to work. Our research shows that the encouragement of friends, family and workmates is the best way to achieve this. The Ride2Work program leverages this catalyst using evidence-based behavior change tools to encourage existing bike commuters to encourage other people to ‘give it a go’.
The program aims to provide people contemplating riding to work with the benefits they will experience, and mechanisms to overcome any barriers. Current commuters can share ideas and support and encourage new riders.
The focus is on people’s main, regular transport requirement – commuting to work. 5km – 10km commutes via bicycle is a viable option for many people – and this number is increased if you include partial commutes or multi-moding (ride and public transport, drive and ride etc). However, shorter commutes, and longer ones are also encouraged, as is any cycling for transport in general.
Data collected during the Ride2Work program aids local, State and the Federal governments in gauging commuter use of bicycles in key areas, along key routes, and by particular demographics.
By registering, your ride is making a difference. And the more people that ride, the more people are likely to give it a try.
