Ride2School Day is set to be full of colour, excitement and thousands of bikes!
Ride2School Day is held on Friday, 4 March 2016 and provides an opportunity for Australian students, parents and teachers to give riding, walking, skating or scooting to school a go, while celebrating the regular walkers and wheelers.
On this day, an active journey to school is normal and the entire school community gets behind the celebration. It is a chance to celebrate on a large scale and prove it can be done. After showing it’s achievable on this day school communities are encouraged to keep the momentum going throughout the entire year.
Passionate about kids getting active? TravelSmart to School provides year round inspiration, resources and recognition. Primary schools are invited to share Ride2School Day plans and event photos at tsts.com.au Check out the awesome ideas in their guide to Running an Event.
Active transport is a great way to encourage a healthy lifestyle amongst students and the wider school community. In the 1970s, 80 per cent of school children were active on the way to school. Today, only 20 per cent experience the joy of getting fresh air on the school journey. Whether they ride or scoot all the way, or part way, it’s a great way for all students to get active, learn new skills and increase their confidence.
Register for Ride2School Day and make your school’s participation count. Registering enables Bicycle Network to capture valuable data which is used to support their program and get more students active.
