THE WATER CORPORATION, LEEDERVILLE
The Water Corporation in Leederville is a pro-active cycling organisation largely due to the efforts of their workplace champions – Ruth Murray and Mike Thorman (pictured right).
Both Mike and Ruth are dedicated commuter riders and have been instrumental in all manner of bicycle related initiatives at the Water Corporation. Mike also coaches mountain biking and road cycling skills with AvantiPlus Cannington in his spare time.
The Water Corporation has upgraded its facilities and installed high quality end of trip facilities for all their staff. This secure facility, which takes up the space of just six parking bays, has a capacity for more than 150 bikes using both floor and wall-mounted systems. The bike storage area is totally undercover and protected by floor to ceiling strong wire meshing with swipe card access control.
The Water Corporation doesn’t just provide its staff with secure bike parking, they also have modern change rooms fitted with hair dryers, towel racks and more than 250 lockers. There are eight showers for the women and 11 showers for the men. A low humidity drying-room is located just outside the change rooms and can be used by the staff to hang wet clothing and towels which ensures comfortable dry clothes at the end of a shift. This is all complemented by a fully equipped gym.
It is obvious that the Water Corporation understands the benefits of providing such great facilities for their staff and it is no doubt one of the main reasons why such as large proportion of their staff ride to work.
Congratulations to the Water Corporation and to their workplace champions, Mike and Ruth.
